Windy Weather

We’re currently experiencing some pretty strong, gusty winds here in Auckland, with the Met Service forecasting gusts of over 110kmph (I’ve certainly felt the house juddering from the strength of the wind).

This is one part of the weather that we can’t easily see from the NOAA weather satellites, unlike features such as cloud cover, precipitation and air / sea temperatures.

Due to the strength of the gusts, I’ve temporarily taken down the QFH antenna to prevent any possible damage happening and will have it back up as soon as possible, hoping to avoid missing any / many satellite passes.

UPDATE: Taken down just in time as the winds got strong and gustier. First pass after putting it back up showed that a connector had been loosened (again) and I’m still waiting on a replacement, so I’ve repaired it again and hoping it survives a bit longer even as the wind is up again.
