Even satellites need patching!

As reported on Reddit, there is a planned GOES outage on the 23rd March (today) between 1400 and 2000 UTC for GOES 16 and GOES 17 which are impacted from software patching with system upgrades to Oracle (assuming database) and NFS.

This will require data operations to be offline during the outage, although there will be some channels (DCS, NHC and EMWIN) still available, although only a small subset of GOES graphics are shown on this website on the GOES – Latest Graphics page.

Hopefully this all goes to plan and GOES 16 / 17 will be back to their usual amazing selves.
