GEO-KOMPSAT 2A

GEO-KOMPSAT 2A (GK-2A) is a South Korean weather satellite in geostationary orbit. It is one of a pair with GK-2B.

The satellite was launched in December 2018 and provides coverage across a wide area, just about perfect for Australia, with New Zealand in the coverage area, being “visible” in the bottom right of this image although hidden by cloud.

GK-2A – Infra Red Full Disk

The satellite transmits images every 10 minutes with the majority of these being full disk infra red images, although there other data types including Ant (Antenna data), RWW3A (Regional Water Vapour).
