QFH Antenna Functional

I’ve now got the QFH antenna back to functioning as it should be after identifying a second issue with the connectors which link the antenna feed line to the FM Block / SAWbird combination. The high wind from the storm just over a week ago had shaken the connectors so much that the centre pin of the SMA connector was either not connecting or at times connecting poorly.

This has now been fixed, with this being confirmed by being able to first receive data from Orbcom satellites and definitively by being able to capture the first NOAA pass from this evening.

NOAA 19 – False Colour Highlighting Precipitation

The storm which has been causing intense rain, especially over Northland and the Coromandel is now well out to see, however there is still some rain out to the west of the North Island, including a very intense area which is probably going to cross the North Island Sunday morning.

It will be interesting to track this intense area over the next few passes.

The South Island looks clear, so expect a cold night.
